Over Geeked

Something thats been bugging me lately is people who are overly geeky about a particular subject or characters and the like. For example, when the Marvel vs Capcom 3 trailer debuted the comments were filled with people saying the Hulk looked awful or not right etc. How geeky do you have to be about the Hulk to nitpick a character design choice a part like that? I watched it, Hulk looked like the Hulk to me. I couldn't find the validation to the claims and whiny cries of rabid Hulked out geeks upset with his design. It seemed fine to me. Maybe I'm just not that obsessed with the appearance of a giant steroid induced green man beast. Maybe I have more important things to do with my time than stare at a character render and find all the design flaws. Or maybe I'm just open minded enough to except other artist interpretation of things. I must not be a hardcore Marvel fan, or have played enough Marvel vs Capcom 2 to be considered elite enough to find all the small little things wrong with design choices made by the team.

However, thats all bullshit! I can look forward to any game I want, and I can accept any design choices made by a developer as long as the end result is a playable and fun experience. I really don't care what the Hulk looks like, as long as he's big and green, my brain accepts it as the Hulk. A similar thing has occurred on the new DMC trailer for what looks like either a reboot or prequel to Devil May Cry. The over all look is a very grungy look but the main complaint in the changes is that this obviously younger Dante doesn't look like Dante. No shit! He's younger, how could he look the same? But I'm hearing he doesn't look bad ass enough. Really? bad ass enough? Lets see, flipping around blasting demons with guns, classic Dante style. Ah I know he doesn't appear to clap his hands in a feminine stance with a rose in his mouth like in all the other games. Hmmm, wait thats the definition of looking bad ass? Ah I had no idea, its not the acrobatics or gunslinging that makes one an bad ass action hero, its the white hair and matador poses that should appeal to ladies rather than men....but I won't touch that one.

The thing is it doesn't matter if you piss and moan about how some else visualizes an established character you like, you can not change it. You can geek out over it as much as you want, but its foolish. Clear your mind, grow some brain cells and get over it. At least they had the courtesy to make it a young Dante. You would think that alone would make it acceptable since they aren't taking the present day Dante everyone loves and giving him a new look and remaking his staring roles. Just simply re-envisioning the demon slayer in an earlier time in his life. I really can't find a problem with the look of anything I saw in the trailer, not even with Dante. Then again, perhaps I'm just not over geeked.

I shall enjoy the waters of the rivers made by fanboy tears as they continue to cry! Cry little bitches cry!
